Whispering Palms Hotel ★★★★

The resort is situated right on the beach and you can literally walk out on the beach from the resort. The rooms were spacious (with a sit out area) and clean. Breakfast had very few options but was wholesome. There are multiple restaurants within walking distance on the beach and a couple of them (Janu's and Palm) were really good. The hotel was able to arrange a cab for a decent price for a day trip to Galle and also helped us with the drop back to Colombo.

For some reason, the place seemed to attract a lot of flies. There should have been some screen for the balcony and some pest control light/device in the rooms. This was even after the rooms were cleaned regularly, so it seemed to have to do something with external environment rather than the cleanliness of the place itself. The location is a bit far away from markets and if you want to buy anything, you have to travel a bit via tuktuk.

The room was not clean - floors were not cleaned well, there were dust on the tables - we cleaned them by ourselves with paper wipes and they were black... There was only one (of 2) lightbulbs at the bed, which was the only source of light in the room. The sink was leaking in the bathroom. No refrigerator, no TV, no hairdryer in the room.

This is a very nice property, very clean and well kept. It is right on a nice beach and the hotel itself has a lovely pool. The rooms are large with nice big balconies, all sea-facing. The bathrooms are modern. Air conditioning is very efficient and super quiet. The breakfast is good. The staff are lovely and polite. You get beautiful views of the sunset here whether from the beach or your balcony. There are a few decent little beach restaurants either side of the hotel. Janu's Paradise in particular had good food and a friendly welcome.

I am not going to be over-critical because I know the economic state Sri Lanka is in right now and the tourist industry is just taking the first steps towards recovery. There are fuel and food shortages all over the country but yet it is still such a beautiful friendly and welcoming place. The following may bother some travellers however so worth pointing out. There seems to be a slight issue with hot water in the shower in that it needs to run for a good ten minutes before the water gets warm. There is no TV in the room - it didn't bother us as we were only there for a few days but as there is also not a lot doing in the evenings (the resturants round about are fairly quiet and shut around 11), this may bother some people.

Beautiful pool and beach area, friendly staff, good breakfast, nice restaurants nearby on the beach, balcony sea view is great!

The rooms could use an upgrade, old fashioned and simple design

The location is stunning, right beside the beach with a perfect view of the sea and with other smart and casual restaurants and bars within a short stroll. Watched a mega lightening thunderstorm from the excellent vaulted balcony as the drainage channels funnelled gallons of water down to the sand beneath. Air con very effective. Also has a roof fan for milder temperature. Daily cleaned swimming pool. Helpful, happy staff. Very competent lady receptionist speaks perfect English. Breakfast on first floor gave a great view. Good choice of either Sri Lankan or European breakfasts pre ordered the night before. Reliable security guard on duty downstairs at start of steps up to the rooms. Taxis and tuk tuk runs to order.

Tired towels. Limescaled shower taps. Mothballs in safe and drawers stank! Sun loungers round pool and beach in need of some repairs.

It’s completely abandoned property. All areas are dirty, very old, all furniture everything include fridge, door lock, bathroom fittings are broken. Pathetic.

Direct access to the beach and good pool.

Whispering Palms has so much potential if only management cared more. The room was very tired, bedding in a poor state and curtaining torn and general cleaning needs urgent attention. There were lots of flies around. Our room was supposedly "cleaned" yet coffee cups were not washed and bathroom mat and towels not replaced on our second day. We stayed at various other lower star places across Sri Lanka at a fraction of the cost of Whispering Palms and had far greater cleanliness, hospitality and value for money. Not a place we would consider staying at again or recommend to others.

Location.

Everything was run-down. The toilet was dirty, the balcony door was broken, the shower was trickling, the safe deposit box was not working, the service was at snail’s pace, etc, etc.

Gutes Frühstück, freundliches Personal. Super Aussicht vom Zimmer/Balkon. Pool groß und sauber. Gutes WLAN bis zum Strand. Gute Liegen direkt am Strand unter Palmen.

Schon etwas abgewohntes Hotel, das ein bisschen Auffrischung vertragen würde. Kein Warmwasser.

Кухня отвратительная

Отличный отель, нам все понравилось, мы даже решили внепланово остаться тут ещё на 1 ночь. Похоже мы были единственные гости в этом отеле, было потрясающее чувство полного уединения, как в медовый месяц. Вид с балкона потрясающий. Полный релакс. Кушать ходили в соседний отель справа прямо на пляже, по вечерам была даже живая музыка.

La piscina y las vistas del atardecer. El personal del bar y el restaurante los mejores. La comida estaba buena. Nos dejaron la habitación hasta por la noche

No vale ni de lejos lo que cuesta. Está viejo, parece a punto de morir, más en comparación con el resto de hoteles de la zona (bastante "pija") y teniendo en cuenta el precio. Salvo el trato, los azulejos del baño nuevos y que la cama era cómoda, todo lo demás estaba descuidado. La taza del wc es lo más viejo y sucio que he visto nunca. Nos la cambiaron por la de otra habitación pero seguía siendo igual. Los dueños deberían invertir y ocuparse de que el hotel valga el precio que pagas porque estaba a la altura o peor de hoteles de 20€ que hemos pagado en el resto del viaje
