What was the highlight of Whispering Palms Hotel
Good
The resort is situated right on the beach and you can literally walk out on the beach from the resort. The rooms were spacious (with a sit out area) and clean. Breakfast had very few options but was wholesome. There are multiple restaurants within walking distance on the beach and a couple of them (Janu's and Palm) were really good. The hotel was able to arrange a cab for a decent price for a day trip to Galle and also helped us with the drop back to Colombo.
For some reason, the place seemed to attract a lot of flies. There should have been some screen for the balcony and some pest control light/device in the rooms. This was even after the rooms were cleaned regularly, so it seemed to have to do something with external environment rather than the cleanliness of the place itself. The location is a bit far away from markets and if you want to buy anything, you have to travel a bit via tuktuk.

What was the highlight of Whispering Palms Hotel
A great place to relax.
This is a lovely, calm, clean and friendly hotel. Check in was easy - I arrived early but my room was ready will a welcome drink. Every room has a large sea-facing balcony and the beds are really comfortable. The bathroom is modern and clean with a good shower. The breakfasts have a good selection and are served whenever you wake up, so none of the stress of getting there before a certain time, just what you need on a relaxing holiday and are big enough to keep you full til late afternoon. The pool area is lovely and about 5 steps to the sea and the beach is peaceful and mainly empty. All of the staff are friendly, kind and helpful and always on hand to call a tuk tuk should you need one. The food in the restaurant is varied and reasonably priced. There are other restaurants just a short walk away from the hotel down the beach and Bentota and Aluthgama are a short tuk tuk ride away. (The closest ATM is Aluthgama). Train stations are close by if you want to get the train to Galle, which is about 55p and amazing. I had a really relaxing stay here which is just what I needed - even when it rained the view was beautiful. This is a great hotel with a friendly, family atmosphere and you should definitely stay here if you want to get away from it all. I will be coming back!
More small tables for drinks etc by the pool loungers - apart from that, nothing!

Whispering Palms was a thorough disappointment
Direct access to the beach and good pool.
Whispering Palms has so much potential if only management cared more. The room was very tired, bedding in a poor state and curtaining torn and general cleaning needs urgent attention. There were lots of flies around. Our room was supposedly "cleaned" yet coffee cups were not washed and bathroom mat and towels not replaced on our second day. We stayed at various other lower star places across Sri Lanka at a fraction of the cost of Whispering Palms and had far greater cleanliness, hospitality and value for money. Not a place we would consider staying at again or recommend to others.
